04 EPISCOPAL CHURCH OF ST. GEORGE. Prizren

Site description Large scale three-aisled Basilica with dome and bell tower added later over the W façade. Sheltered rich treasures. Built in the second half of XIX c. Inventoried. IPM Prizren.
2004-Damage Assessment st.sava
  • Completely burned down, roof collapsed, interior gutted, only perimeter walls remained.
  • Dome and bell-tower collapsed. Interior, iconostasis, and decoration completely destroyed.
  • Marble floor extensively damaged.
  • Damaged and soiled stonework.
2005-Protective Interventions st.sava
  • Clearance of the church and the site.
  • Mounting of a provisional scaffold and temporary protection over the top of the perimeter walls.
  • Demolition of the parish house due to it being an unstable structure.
  • Temporary hoardings.
2006-RECONSTRUCTION WORKS st.sava
  • Clearance. Demolition of damaged elements.
  • Foundations for new pillars.
  • Steel pillars and roof structure.
  • Stone cleaning and repairs.
  • New stone vaults and dome.
  • Lead roof installed.
  • Joinery.
  • Electrical installation.
2007-RECONSTRUCTION WORKS st.sava
  • Reconstruction of the dome and the belfry to the church.
  • Reconstruction of the parish house.
  • Internal plasterwork commenced.
  • Electrical installation.
  • Internal repairs.
2008- RECONSTRUCTION WORKS
  • Continuation of works from 2007
2009- FURTHER INTERVENTIONS PROGRAMMED
  • Landscape and drainage design.
  • New iconostasis.
  • Archaeological assessment.
