03 MONASTERY OF ST JOANIKIJE AT DEVIC Llaushë/Lauša (Skënderaj/Srbica)

Site description Monastic complex with a Church dating from the XV c and three “konaks” and refectory. Frescoes from XV and XIX centuries. Founded in the XV c. the monastery was renewed in the XIX century, destroyed WW2 and rebuilt 1947-60). Listed monument.
2004-Damage Assessment	In March 2004 the whole complex was set on fire the interiors gutted and the cemetery desecrated. The church affected by fire, the roof and iconostasis destroyed and the wall paintings covered in soot and graffiti. Konaks totally destroyed by fire, only main walls standing. In 2004, after the riots, the church roof was repaired and the former refectory reconstructed and turned into the nuns living quarters.
2005-Protective Interventions	Repair of perimeter walls. Replacement or repair of damaged doors and windows in the church. Repair of the altar table. Repair of the lead roof. Replacement of gutters and down pipes of the church. Demolition of unstable and unsafe partition wall in the old konak.
2006-RECONSTRUCTION WORKS	Reconstruction of the old guest house. Reconstruction of partitions, plaster, floors and joinery. Services. New concrete slabs. New roof construction and roof tiles. Lead roof cover to the winter chapel. Reconstruction of a collapsed retaining wall. Internal repairs to the church: Restoration of damaged plaster and floors. Electrical installations. Protective works in the central konak. New concrete slabs. Walls consolidation and reinforcement
2007-RECONSTRUCTION WORKS	Reconstruction of the central guest house New concrete slabs. New roof construction and roof tiles. Reconstruction of partitions, plaster, floors and joinery. Services installed. Construction of a new boiler house and heating system. Cemetery repairs.
2008-RECONSTRUCTION WORKS	Continuation of works from 2007.
2009- FURTHER INTERVENTIONS PROGRAMMED	Bell and the well Reconstruction of the remaining monastic buildings New iconostasis to the church. Wall paintings restoration.
