26 CHURCH OF THE ASSUMPTION OF THE HOLY VIRGIN. Gjakovė/Šakovica

Site description Single-aisled church with belfry over the entrance. Built in the XIX c. on the site of an older XVIc foundation. Listed monument.
2004-Damage Assessment st.sava
  • Burned and demolished. Completely destroyed.
  • Parish house completely destroyed, Cemetery desecrated.
2005-Protective Interventions st.sava
  • Clearing of the site, demolition of the unstable remains of the north eastern building.
  • Construction of a fence around the complex.
2006-PROTECTIVE INTERVENTIONS st.sava
  • Wall foundations.
  • Stone wall.
  • Timber gates.
2007-PROTECTIVE INTERVENTIONS st.sava
  • Reconstruction of the parish house.
  • Reconstruction of the guest house.
2008- RECONSTRUCTION WORKS
  • Continuation of works from 2007
2009- FURTHER INTERVENTIONS PROGRAMMED
  • Reconstruction of the church.
  • New iconostasis.
